Chez Serge, Carpentras France

We have enjoyed nice lunches at Chez Serge over the years after the Friday morning market in Carpentras. Carpentras is located 19 km south of Sablet via the D7 in the Vaucluse region of Provence France. The restaurant is conveniently located across the street from the main market on Rue Cottier.

There is a terrace in front of the restaurant which is filled with diners on sunny days. The interior dining rooms are very pretty and service is gracious and attentive. Unusually for Provence, Chez Serge offers good stemware for wine service.

The dining room is overseen by the restaurant's genial owner Serge Ghoukassian who is a wine expert and truffle lover. Chez Serge is famous for its dishes with truffles and puts on special truffle and wine dinners throughout the truffle season.

Chez Serge offers a “formule du midi” Monday through Friday for 19.50€, which includes a choice of entrees, (starters) plats (main course), and desserts. On our most recent visit, I chose a starter of “bouillabaisse” and Shirley was served a specially created salad since she is generally a vegetarian except for fish.

Lunch continued with a choice of main courses or "plats". I chose the Supreme de Volaille (chicken) with butternut squash risotto and puree of butternut squash shown below.

For her main course, Shirley settled on the Papillote de Lieu Jaune (Pollock) with potatoes and piperade.

Lunch ended with a choice of desserts. I chose the Molleaux aux Chocolat (molten chocolate cake) with caramel sauce and creme aux truffes.

Chez Serge is an excellent place for lunch after the Friday market or any other time you are in Carpentras. Tables fill up quickly so we strongly recommend you reserve a table before you go.
